Roasting them is super easy, and it's the perfect way to enjoy a crunchy, homemade snack.
At Old Farm Garden Centre, we’re all about making the most of every season’s harvest, and roasting pumpkin seeds is one of our favorite fall traditions. Here's a guide to help you turn your pumpkin's leftovers into a tasty and nutritious snack.
Why Roast Pumpkin Seeds?
Pumpkin seeds are packed with nutrients like protein, fiber, magnesium, and antioxidants. Roasting them at home allows you to enjoy their natural benefits without the additives found in store-bought snacks. Plus, they’re an eco-friendly treat—no waste!

How to Roast Pumpkin Seeds: Step-by-Step
What You’ll Need:
Seeds from 1 pumpkin
1 tablespoon olive oil (or your preferred oil)
Salt, to taste
Optional: Try one of our flavour variartions below.
Instructions:
After scooping the seeds out of your pumpkin, separate the seeds from the stringy pulp. This can be done by rinsing them in a colander under cool running water. Don’t worry about getting every bit of the pulp off—a little adds flavor!
Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Pat the seeds dry with a clean towel. They roast better when they’re dry, so this step is important.
Toss the seeds in a bowl with olive oil and a pinch of salt. This is where you can get creative with flavor. Try one of the flavour variations below, or create your own!
Spread the seasoned seeds in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Roast for about 20-30 minutes, stirring every 10-15 minutes to ensure even roasting. Keep an eye on them—they should turn golden brown but not burn.
Once they’re roasted to perfection, take the seeds out and let them cool. Enjoy them as a snack, sprinkle them on salads, or add them to soups for a crunchy topping!
Flavor Variations to Try:
Savory Garlic & Herb: Toss seeds with garlic powder, rosemary, thyme, and a dash of parmesan cheese before roasting.
Sweet Cinnamon Sugar: For a dessert-like snack, sprinkle the seeds with cinnamon and sugar, and finish with a drizzle of honey or maple syrup after roasting.
Spicy Kick: If you love heat, mix your seeds with cayenne pepper, chili powder, and a dash of lime juice.
Store Your Seeds:
If you have any leftovers (which is rare!), store your roasted pumpkin seeds in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. You can also freeze them for longer shelf life!
Roasted pumpkin seeds are a perfect example of fall's simple joys. At Old Farm Garden Centre, we’re all about celebrating every part of the season, and making the most of your pumpkins is just one way to connect with nature and the harvest.
